Danny Barber was allegedly murdered at a boarding house in Adelaide in August

A man charged with a boarding house murder in Adelaide allegedly used a baseball bat, a bike and wheelie bin to assault his victim, a court has heard.

Nikola Milosevic came before Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday seeking to be released on home detention bail.

But prosecutor Karen Ingleton told the court that all forms of bail were opposed, saying the attack on victim Danny Barber took place over a number of hours in August.

Ms Ingleton said the attack was sparked by a dispute over internet access and began in the victim’s bedroom.

She said it was alleged that Milosevic had stomped on Mr Barber’s head before the assault moved to the backyard,

It was there that the bike, wheelie bin, baseball bat and possibly a metal pole were used, the prosecutor said.

Ms Ingleton said the prosecution was also concerned that Milosevic might flee the jurisdiction or attempt to interfere with witnesses should he be granted bail.

Defence counsel Greg Mead said Milosevic, 37, had a good work record since coming to Australia in 2010 and said any trial in the case was not likely until late 2020 or early 2021.

He said forensic material was still outstanding, including a post-mortem report, and would not be available until late March.

Magistrate Brett Dixon ordered a bail assessment report and will make a decision next week.
