Former Republican Senator Bob Dole has been hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland since last week.  

Dole spokeswoman Marion Watkins said in an email Friday that the 94-year-old former lawmaker from Kansas has been hospitalized since Sept. 13.

‘After a routine check-up, he experienced a brief bout of low blood pressure, which they are correcting with medication,’ Watkins later told Fox News on Friday.

Dole’s wife, former North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole, tweeted a request for prayers. 

Another Tweet by the couple’s charity, The Dole Foundation, stated that the former politicians would not be available to attend the Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada due to the circumstances. 

‘Sorry to miss #InvictusGames2017. I’m with my husband, @SenatorDole, at the hospital. Please pray for his speedy recovery -Elizabeth Dole,’ read the message.

The Invictus Games is a multi-sport International event for disabled armed services personnel and veterans created by Prince Harry of Wales .

Dole later tweeted that he hopes to be home in a few days, ‘sipping a cosmo.’

‘Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. I hope to be home sipping a cosmo in a few days,’ he wrote to Twitter. 

Dole was a U.S. senator for 35 years before leaving in 1996 for his campaign against President Bill Clinton. Congress recently voted to award him a Congressional Gold Medal.
