Boca Juniors bizarrely sacked their manager Sebastian Battaglia at a petrol station.

Battaglia’s side had been knocked out of the Copa Libertadores after losing on penalties to Corinthians.

As reported by Sky Sports, Battaglia was on his way home when the club’s board arranged a meeting with him at a petrol station in the north of Buenos Aires.

Boca are currently in eleventh place in the league having taken nine points from six games so far. 

Battaglia was in his second spell in charge of Boca, having been re-appointed in August last year. During his second stint he won 29, drew 16 and lost ten of the 55 matches which he oversaw.

He won the Copa Argentina in the 2019-20 campaign and the Copa de la Liga Profesional this year.

Prior to that, Battaglia had a spell as Boca’s interim boss in July 2021 for two games.

He commenced his managerial career with a short stint in charge of Almagro.

As a player Battaglia won ten caps for Argentina between 2003 and 2009.

He had two spells at Boca Juniors as a player, winning 18 trophies in total. Battaglia also played for Villarreal.
