Body found at The Lakes Golf Club in Eastlakes: Corpse is pulled from a pond at Sydney venue

A body has been found in a pond at an exclusive Sydney golf club. 

NSW Police were called to the The Lakes Golf Club in Eastlakes, in Sydney’s south after golfers found a body in the pond next to Wentworth Avenue, on Wednesday morning.

Officers have established a crime scene as police begin investigations into the grim finding.

It’s believed the deceased body is that of a male however the age of the person is unclear.

A spokesperson from NSW Police told Daily Mail Australia investigations are ongoing. 

‘About 9.30am Wednesday 9 August 2023, officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended a golf course on Wentworth Avenue, Eastlakes, following reports of a concern for welfare,’ the spokesperson said. 

‘Officers are being assisted by PolAir and the Marine Area Command’. 

The course has been closed until further notice.  

The body was found by golfers at The Lakes Golf Club at 9:30am on Wednesday as officers from NSW Police set up a crime scene to investigate the grim discovery

According to the golf club’s website, the golf club is one of Australia’s ‘pre-eminent private clubs and one of the leading major tournament venues in Australia’. 

The prestigious club was established in 1928 and has hosted the Australian Open Golf major seven times. 

The club charges $40,000 for a seven day membership for people 40 years and over to use the range. 

 Annual membership costs $5700. 

The venue also hosts private functions and weddings.
