  • 28-year-old Jessica Flood was strangled on June 20 and left under bed, cops say
  • Body found in the same room where a guest had complained of a terrible stench
  • Aaron Thornton, 30, and Jennifer Harrington, 33, are charged with her murder
  • They are both recovering from gunshot wounds related to drug deal gone wrong

Two people have been charged with murder after complaints about an awful odor led to the discovery of a body stuffed under a Michigan motel bed for five days.

Authorities say 28-year-old Jessica Flood was strangled on June 20. Her body was found Monday under a bed at the Great Western Inn in Mount Morris Township, near Flint, following a complaint from a customer in the same room.

Aaron Thornton, 30, and Jennifer Harrington, 33, are charged with first-degree murder and unlawful imprisonment.

Police say they were familiar with the victim. They appeared in court this week and were denied bond.

Separately, they are recovering from gunshot wounds in an unrelated incident linked to a drug deal gone bad.

Court records indicate Thornton and Harrington do not have attorneys yet who could be contacted for comment.

The Great Western Inn has been the focus of trouble for years, according to Mt. Morris Township Police Chief Terence Green.

‘I am investigating several deaths we believe were overdoses of young females and young males at this very exact hotel,’ he told ABC12.

People who live nearby said they had become used to drug-related activity around the motel, with ambulances and police cars seen outside on a regular basis.
