Body language expert: Steve and Rosie Jacobs showed no signs of tension during retirement speech

On Friday, Steve Jacobs looked like a broken man, spotted in public for the first time since news of his shattered marriage broke.

It was a stark contrast to the 51-year-old’s demeanour during his Today show retirement speech in 2016, where he was joined by his children and now-estranged wife Rosie.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, body language expert Diederik Gelderman explained the couple did not yet show any signs of mounting tensions.

‘There are lots of little things they do which are all positive’: Body language expert claims Steve and Rosie Jacobs were the picture of happiness during his emotional retirement speech in 2016… so why did things fall apart so quickly?

In 2016, Steve, 51, stepped down from full time duties as Today’s weatherman and moved to Vanuatu with Rosie, 39, and daughters Isabella, six, and Francesca, three.

In the wake of reports Rosie has moved on with another man, the announcement has been categorised as a failed ‘last-ditch’ attempt to save his marriage.

Diederik analysed the footage for any signs of the couple’s impending demise, explaining that Steve was emotional, but likely not suffering relationship woes.

‘The kids on the lap interfere with any “normal” body language they would show, however she does reach out and touch him on the arm a number of times,’ he said.

‘They share genuine smiles and there are lots of little things they do which are all positive’.

He added: ‘There is nothing negative in any of their body language – everything is solid.’

‘My reading is that at that time they were fully committed to the relationship and each other.’

During the emotional announcement, Steve was on the verge of tears as he thanked hosts Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson for the ‘time of his life.’

‘We’re making a decision for the family, and it’s a big one,’ Rosie continued.

His daughters sat on his lap and smiled happily as he confirmed their plans to move to Vanuatu.

Somewhere between the December 2016 speech and late 2017, things took a tragic turn.

Word of his split with his wife of eight years first broke last Saturday, followed by revelations he’d allegedly become ‘involved in an altercation’ with her new lover.

Steve allegedly had a tense verbal sparring match with Rosie’s new Canadian ex-commando lover Dylan Nash in a Vanuatu gym.

He was spotted in public for the first time earlier this week, looking downcast as he walked the streets of Bondi.
