Body of missing 8-year-old autistic boy found in the Colorado River

  • Jeremy Duncan was last seen Saturday morning,  he was autistic and non-verbal
  • More than 1,000 people converged to help search for the boy, on land and water
  • A kayaker called 911 early Sunday morning to report body on the Colorado River
  • Police are still investigating the circumstances around the ‘apparent drowning’ 

Authorities in western Arizona have found the body of an 8-year-old nonverbal autistic boy who had gone missing.

Jeremy Duncan had last been seen Saturday morning in Bullhead City, Arizona. 

He was wearing neon yellow shorts, no shirt and no shoes. 

Surveillance video captured the little boy running down the street.

More than 1,000 first responders and volunteers searched by land, air and water for the boy into the nighttime hours. 

They included people on horseback, police with specially trained dogs, and rescuers in boats on the river.

A kayaker notified Bullhead City authorities early Sunday after coming across the child’s body in the Colorado River.

A candlelight vigil for Jeremy Duncan was held on Sunday night.  His body was found earlier in the day.

Bullhead City Police Chief Brian Williamson confirmed later Sunday morning that the remains were those of Jeremy Duncan.  

During a news conference, Williamson  said,  ‘from the bottom of my heart on behalf of the Bullhead City Police Department, I would like to thank all of those volunteers who came out and worked tirelessly to try to bring Jeremy home well. I would also like to thank the many businesses who took it upon themselves to keep our operation running and to keep people fueled and hydrated.’

He added that the circumstances of the apparent drowning are being investigated.
