Body of missing Florida woman is found amid wreckage of boyfriend’s wife’s boat a week after a fire

The body of a missing Florida woman has been found amongst the wreckage of her boyfriend’s wife’s boat nearly a week after the inside of the vessel went up in flames with her onboard.

Officers from the Daytona Beach Police Department confirmed on Tuesday that 31-year-old Nikki Shriver’s body was found on a bench underneath a large cushion on the boat.

Authorities from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were inspecting the boat for possible arson when they found Shriver’s body.

‘First responders did not find her body during the initial hours of the investigation, in part because it wasn’t easily visible due to fire damage in the area where the body was found,’ a police statement reads.

According to authorities, the boat belonged to the wife of Shriver’s boyfriend, who ended his relationship with the victim.

Shriver had soot in her lungs. No foul play is suspected. The victim was last seen on June 4 after spending two nights on the boat.

On June 5, her ex-boyfriend and his wife called police to Halifax Harbor Marina around 2am to have Shriver removed from the vessel.

The ex-boyfriend told police that while he was with Shriver she was allowed on the boat with his permission. After they broke up, she was no longer welcome.

He told police that Shriver ‘made suicidal statements’ to him and his wife during a phone conversation.

When first responders arrived, they found the vessel floating in the middle of the channel around 20 feet away from the docks.

‘It appears that someone had untied the ropes holding the boat to the shore, allowing the vessel to float away,’ police said.

Moments later, the first responders heard several gunshots and saw flames coming from inside the boat.

Police said there were three firearms on board, including an AK-47 with around 100 rounds, a shotgun with around 5 rounds and a handgun with around 30 rounds.

‘All efforts were made from shore to see if the woman on board was alive and to get her to come out, including the use of a drone, a public address system and a helicopter,’ police said.

Officials have not said how Shriver died or how the fire started.

Last year, it was reported that Shriver went missing in a wooded area in Daytona Beach where she hid from police as they looked for her because she was ‘paranoid’ they were someone else.

Shriver came running out of Tiger Bay State forest at 5.25am on June 26 as police sirens rang out.

She had been missing since June 22 when her Toyota pick-up truck ‘got stuck’ at around 1pm.

On June 26, police revealed that she had spent four days hiding from search parties because she did not know who they were and thought it was someone coming after her.

When she finally emerged she was just a mile south from where her truck was found.

Authorities said at the time that she was able get by because she had a ‘survivalist background’ and had spent time in the forest in the past.

‘An initial interview with Ms Shriver indicated she was running and hiding from the search parties because she was paranoid and feared someone else was looking for her,’ the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

‘Detectives were also told Ms Shriver has some survivalist background and has spent time in the woods in the past.

‘Due to her level of exhaustion, this morning’s interview was brief and did not go into many other details,’ the statement read.

Police never revealed who the woman was afraid of or if there was a genuine threat against her.

When she was found, she had no obvious signs of injuries, they said.

In a photograph taken immediately after she was found, Shriver appeared wrapped in a yellow jacket, staring at the camera.

She appeared shell-shocked and disheveled.

It’s believed that Shriver operated a home cleaning business in Deltona.
