The body of a missing high school cheerleader has been found behind her Virginia home.

Ke’Asia Adkins, 17, failed to show up to cheer practice Monday at Dinwiddie High School, sparking a search that ended Thursday morning when her body was recovered. 

Now police say they have 21-year-old Anton Deonte Coleman in custody and have charged him with one count of abduction. 

Adkins body was sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine an exact cause of death. 

Her disappearance was described as ‘extremely unusual’ especially because she had no history of running away, according to the sheriff’s office.

‘Sometime Monday morning her phone went dead,’ her sister Kendra Green said. 

‘This is not in her character at all to disappear,’ Green said. ‘If she’s even going to be 10 minutes late she calls and texts my mom to let her know what’s the situation.’

Her family said that Adkins had just made the varsity cheerleading team was and was a junior in high school.  

The school released a statement: T’he Dinwiddie High School community suffered a tragic loss on June 28 when rising junior and Varsity Cheerleader Ke’Asia Adkins died. It is a very sad day for Dinwiddie High School. 

The thoughts and prayers of the entire Dinwiddie County Public Schools’ community go out to her family. Ke’Asia was a beautiful young lady who was a General through and through. She will be greatly missed by the entire Dinwiddie High School family, especially her friends, teammates, teachers and staff.’
