The body of a man has been found in a patch of grassy woodland close to his home – as police tape off a footpath to scour the area.

The man, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, was discovered behind a row of bungalows off Wawne Road, Bransholme, Hull, this morning.

Neighbours close to where detectives are standing guard described the man as ‘well-known’ and ‘popular’ within the community.

Humberside Police confirmed the discovery later on Friday morning and officers stood guard over a taped off footpath and 30 metres of woodland while other officers search the area.

A spokesman for the force told Hull Live: ‘We are not treating his death as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.’

Earlier this morning, several emergency services vehicles including five police cars and a pair of ambulances were spotted near Broadacre Primary School.

The cordon was in place until just after 10am and police told members of the public to stand back while they continued their enquiries.
