The fox then has to make a getaway as the hare chases the predator off.

Darius, 44, from Kupiskis, Lithuania, said: ‘I was driving by the side of Mirabilis forest when suddenly four frolicking hares ran past me.

‘One hare ran to the wheat field. The fox went after it. Then I heard a hare’s cry.

‘I got myself into a position to take a picture, when the hare disengaged itself from the fox’s jaw and ran away.

‘But freedom was not long lived because the fox had caught the hare again.

‘After a short fight the hare managed to free himself again and the fox took off in the other direction.

‘I can’t believe how lucky the hare was to win the battle.’
