Bondi bus driver pulls over to help old lady cross road

  • Bus driver stops vehicle to help old lady cross the road in Bondi on Thursday
  • He was photographed standing next to elderly woman using walking frame
  • Driver was praised online for his act of generosity by Bondi locals
  • But one man claiming to be a passenger said it made him late for work

A bus driver warmed the hearts of Sydneysiders by stopping his vehicle in the middle of Bondi to help an old lady cross the road.

The unnamed man parked the number 381 bus in front of a crosswalk as it was turning from Denham Street on to Bondi Road as he saw her approach.

He was photographed standing next to her as she gripped a walking frame in both hands, with a green shopping bag on her right arm, and prepared to cross.

Clad in a black t-shirt and shorts with a pair of sunglasses, the bus driver looked on to make sure the elderly woman remained steady on her feet.

The photo was posted online and drew near-universal praise from Bondi locals for his gentlemanly attitude.

‘What a legend! He parked the bus and helped this adorable little lady over the crossing! More of you please!’ the passerby who took the photo wrote.

Another suggested contacting Transport NSW as the driver deserved a raise.

‘I agree, people like this need to know how appreciated they are and I reckon the average bus driver wouldn’t get much,’ a third wrote.

But the reaction wasn’t all positive, as one man claimed he was late to work because of the delay the driver’s act of kindness caused.

It was not known how many people were on board the bus at the time.
