A restaurant owner who found out one of his cleaners was taking a nap inside the store while on the job shocked his manager by standing up for the worker.

Christian Avant, owner and founder of Milky Lane in Bondi, was ‘concerned’ when he received an email from the supervising manager with a photo of the sleeping cleaner.

‘At first I was concerned getting this message from one of my managers,’ Mr Avant wrote on Facebook.

‘Then I saw the funny side. Everyone’s needed a nap before and the venues are clean – rest up you snuggly little burrito.’

The image showed a cleaner bundled up and sleeping about 3.50am when he should have been cleaning the restaurant.

Mr Avant said he could see the funny side of the situation and pointed out that the cleaner still got the job done.

‘One of my managers there sent me the message and was a bit concerned, I asked if the venue was clean [and] he said ”yes”,’ Mr Avant told Yahoo News Australia.

‘So I said let him have power naps then, everyone gets tired. We’re pretty cruisy guys, as long as he gets the jobs done.

‘There wasn’t even one part of us that thought to fire him or issue a warning. We pay them to do a job. And it was done. So if you gotta curl up for a power nap, that’s totally cool.’

‘BOSS GOALS. An understanding boss,’ one commented.

‘We never know what they’re going through. They might be working 3 jobs to support their disabled kid and send money back home to family. We don’t know. At the end of the day if the job is getting done in time for trade and you’re happy with the service then like you said,’ another person wrote.

‘I think you should buy some pillows and leave them their as a gift, or better yet just turn up and put a blanket over them and a pillow behind their head and whisper ‘goodnight’,’ one joked.

‘I wonder what the story is behind it, maybe they are homeless.  Nice of you to be understanding,’ another commented.
