Bondi room going for $300 a week sparks outrage

A notice advertising a cramped Bondi room available to let for $300 a week has sparked outrage online from cash-strapped renters.

The social media advert was posted by two backpackers to a local marketplace Facebook page, with an asking price of $300 a week, despite its tiny size.

Outraged readers took to the platform to ridicule the offer for the ‘prison cell’, with one going so far as to say the post represents ‘everything that’s wrong with Sydney real estate in one photo’.

Two backpackers listed a room available for rent in Bondi so small it hardly fits a double bed

Two windows looking into the back yard offer light into the minuscule room, with enough space for a small night stand at the foot of the bed.

The apartment itself boasts a great location, with the original poster taking to the platform to say share a reason for the pricey tag.

Located ten minutes walk from Bondi Junction and another five from Coles, the advertiser believed the asking price to be extremely reasonable.

The room was labelled a prison cell from another disgruntled user.

‘At this price no wonder people are struggling and homeless cause there are greedy people like this post.’

The backpackers claimed it was a great bargain for others in their position, news.com.au reported.

They alleged hostels charge a steeper fee, even when sharing with another person.

‘Bills are extra, and the rest of the bills is paid each three months, but it’s not a high amount.’
