Bookmakers are copping criticism over their announcement that they’ll be taking bets on whether pop star Pink cancels any more shows due to illness.
The American performer has thus far postponed – though not cancelled – three of her Sydney shows citing sickness, and was admitted to St Vincent’s Hospital on Sunday night with dehydration.
She bowed out of her scheduled performances on Friday August 3rd, Monday August 6th and Tuesday August 7th – while still performing on Saturday the 4th – and has since been diagnosed with a gastric virus.

As she awaits the results of her latest medical assessment, Sportsbet are stacking high odds on the likelihood of Pink being too sick to make her Thursday night Sydney show – calling it an ‘insurance policy for buyers’
Now, as the singer awaits the results of her latest medical assessment, Sportsbet are stacking high odds on the likelihood of Pink being too sick to make her Thursday night Sydney show, the Herald Sun reports.
Moreover, the bookmakers suggest that placing bets on her failure to perform could ‘act as an insurance policy for ticket buyers.’
‘Our aim with the promotion is to give our punters the opportunity to hedge their bets should Pink unfortunately cancel any more of her shows,’ Sportsbet’s Will Byrne told Daily Mail Australia.
‘People are being left out of pocket because of cancelled flights, hotels etc and we want to help alleviate this if possible and put their minds at ease for those upcoming shows.’
As of Tuesday, when Sportsbet announced the promotion, Pink’s Thursday show in Sydney was tipped at a $1.33 chance to be cancelled.
The event of her cancelling her Saturday, August 11th show was paying $1.55 odds, while the event of her cancelling her Sunday August 12th show was paying $1.65.

Social media users have condemned the betting company over the promotion, with online commentator calling it ‘Gross’

Social media users have condemned the betting company over the promotion, with one online commentator calling it a ‘disgrace.
‘Her well being is far more important otherwise she will end up like Michael Jackson!!!’ they tweeted.
‘Gross – those lovely folk at Sportsbet are now taking bets on how many more @Pink shows will be cancelled,’ tweeted another.
‘While she’s been in a hospital bed and no doubt already gutted about the situation. Classy.’

‘People are being left out of pocket because of cancelled flights, hotels etc and we want to help alleviate this if possible and put their minds at ease for those upcoming shows,’ Sportsbet’s Will Byrne told Daily Mail Australia
A third Twitter user quipped that Pink should open a Sportsbet account and ‘bet 10 million on the one she chooses. Give money away and bankrupt them.’
Despite the controversy, however, Mr Byrne is standing behind his company’s decision, and insists that the promotion has the consumers’ best interests at heart.
‘It’s really a positive move for those left in the lurch,’ he said. ‘There will always be some willing to jump on the negative bandwagon – but as the great lady says herself, just raise your glass.’
