Mr. Sandman… build me a hotel! Eight-foot-tall SAND CASTLE opens in Coney Island – but just two lucky guests will have the chance to spend a night in it
- Booking.com had the enormous ‘SAND’-sion built for National Sandcastle Day
- It was built by master sand sculptor Matt Long, from almost 100 tons of sand
- The 20-foot-wide one-bedroom hotel sleeps two
- It’s only open this weekend, with reservations opening August 22 at noon
- The sandcastle is $29/night to rent and comes with dinner, sunrise beach yoga, and passes to Luna Park on Coney Island
Two quick-clicking New York City locals will enjoy the one-of-a-kind experience of spending the night in a giant sandcastle — and hopefully, the tide doesn’t come in.
In honor of National Sandcastle Day (August 19), Booking.com enlisted master sand sculptor Matt Long to build an enormous sand castle, big enough to sleep two people, at Brooklyn’s Coney Island.
The ‘SAND’-sion is set to open up to a pair of guests for one night only this weekend, as part of a package that also includes lots of Coney Island Perks.

Home sweet home: The eight-foot tall, 20-foot-wide one-bedroom hotel sleeps two
Long, who has built impressive sand sculptures around the world and for numerous brands, used almost 100 tons of sand for this project.
The castle is eight feet tall, 20 feet long, and 20 feet wide.
Much as one might expect from a sandcastle, the accommodations are windowless and have no television or WiFi.
However, if safety is a concern, photos of the sandcastle seem to show that the sand was crafted over a sounder, more secure structure.
