He desperately tried to get away from the shopping trolley and sprinted away from it.

But the cart hurtled after the border collie as he ran onto the road, tugging it alongside.

The shopping trolley, still attached to the dog’s leash, slammed into a parked vehicle’s bonnet during the ordeal.

An onlooker and the dog’s owner race into the street to protect the pooch from oncoming traffic.

The video ends as the two women attempt to free the dog from where he was tangled in the trolley.

Social media users slammed the dog owner for her actions.

One person said: ‘Yeah because a shopping trolley is really to keep the dog there. Looks like the dog got scared when it moved with him. Poor pooch.’

Another person said: Sucks about your car but, poor dog. Hope it was OK.’

A third person said they were thankful the situation wasn’t any worse.

‘I’m glad she didn’t have a baby or child restrained in the trolley also,’ the person said.
