Boris Johnson has been given until Monday to explain why he wants to keep secret the details of his relationship with American entrepreneur Jennifer Arcuri.

The Prime Minister this week handed over to the London Assembly an explanation of his links to the blonde former model, 34.

But the former mayor of London, 55, provoked fury by marking his answers ‘private’ and ‘not for publication’.

The Prime Minister gave an explanation to the London Assembly but was told he had ‘not provided the information requested’

The assembly yesterday demanded to know the reasons.

A source said: ‘His answers were hardly confessions. He completely avoided the questions. There is nothing confidential in them.’

Last night Labour’s Len Duvall, chairman of the assembly’s oversight committee, wrote to the PM warning he had ‘not provided the information requested’ and gave him the Monday deadline.

The assembly has the power to summons Mr Johnson to give evidence.

Refusal can carry a maximum three-month jail sentence.

Married Mr Johnson allegedly had an affair with Miss Arcuri, who received public grants and privileged access to mayoral trade missions.

He has denied any impropriety in his role but has repeatedly failed to deny having sex with the businesswoman.

Allies of Mr Johnson say the Labour-dominated assembly’s pursuit of the former mayor is ‘politically motivated’.
