Borussia Dortmund ‘chasing their next British wonderkid’ with ‘a summer bid lined up for Man City youngster Shea Charles’ as they hunt a potential Jude Bellingham replacement

Borussia Dortmund are keeping tabs on Manchester City youngster Shea Charles, according to a report.

Dortmund may have to dip into the transfer market this summer to find a replacement for Jude Bellingham, who appears almost certain to be moving on from the German club.

Charles is a full Northern Ireland international but is yet to make his senior debut for City after graduating from their academy.

Aged 19, he has five caps for his country and made his debut in 2022 in a 1-0 defeat to Greece.

According to BILD, Dortmund are weighing up a bid for Charles in the summer transfer window.

Charles is contracted at Manchester City until 2027 after signing a long-term deal in January 2022.

He was named on the first team substitutes’ bench last month in City’s draw at RB Leipzig in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Born in Manchester, Charles was capped at several youth levels by Northern Ireland before moving to the senior squad.

He’s more defensively minded than Bellingham, and can play at centre-back or right-back if required.

It’s currently unclear if he would be interested in moving to Germany if the opportunity presented itself.

Dortmund have history of poaching some of the best young British talent, picking up Bellingham from Birmingham City in 2020 as a 17-year-old.

They also signed Jadon Sancho from City in 2017, before selling him onto Manchester United in 2021 for £73million, and Jamie Byone-Gittens, also from City, in 2020.
