Boxer dies following fight in Argentina – just two days after Russian fighter Maxim Dadashev
Boxer Hugo Santillan has died following a fight in Argentina.
The 23-year-old super lightweight died from injuries suffered during Saturday’s fight with Uruguayan champion Eduardo Javier Abreu which ended in a draw.
Santillan’s passing was confirmed by the WBC, a statement read: ‘RIP Hugo Santillan. He passed away from injuries suffered during Saturday’s fight which ended in a draw.
‘We join Hugo’s family and friends in grief, support and wish prompt resignation.’
It comes just two days after Russian lightweight Maxim Dadashev, 28, died after suffering a brain bleed following a brutal fight against a Puerto Rican opponent in Maryland.
The Argentine was hospitalised after fainting in the ring and needing oxygen following the brutal fight in San Nicolas.
He was treated for a brain clot and suffered two heart attacks, La Nacion reported.
The director of the Hospital of San Nicolás, Dr. Graciela Olocco, confirmed her death of Santillán, from Ceres, in Sante Fe, earlier today, stating ‘he never left the coma.’.
