A young mother had the scare of her life when her three-year-old son came near death after being misdiagnosed with a stomach bug.

Noah Armstrong was diagnosed with a burst appendix and twisted bowel on Thursday less than 24 hours after he’d been sent home from St. John of God Midland hospital in Perth.

Holly Armstrong rushed her son to the hospital at 8am after staying up with Noah while he endured an entire night of pain and vomiting.

After waiting to be seen for thirty minutes, Ms Armstrong said a nurse took a urine sample for a test.

She explained to the doctors that her son could barely walk or settle down due to his abdominal pain and was suffering a high temperature of 40C.

In an emotional post to Facebook, Ms Armstrong said she was sent away by the doctors with pain killers.

‘I was told by the dr (sic) that “children his age sometimes just get pains that mean nothing”,’ she wrote.

One hour after leaving the hospital, the young mother grew more worried as Noah was unable to move or communicate.

Talking to WA Today, Ms Armstrong said Noah began to lose control of his limbs and was losing consciousness.

Ms Armstrong then rushed the three-year-old to Perth Children’s Hospital where she explained the entire ordeal and got Noah in to see someone straight away.

Over the course of Wednesday night to Thursday morning, nurses performed an ultrasound, X-ray, urine test, CAT scan and blood test.

Noah was suffering from a burst appendix and a malrotation of the bowel (intestinal) which caused him to have surgery immediately.

Ms Armstrong was appalled with how her son was treated, writing on Facebook: ‘If you have a child. Please please do not let anyone turn you away if you do not think they are okay. I could have lost my son if I listened to them.’

‘I’m so absolutely disgusted in the lack of care and ignorance towards helping my son. I will not go back there.’
