Boy, 7, drowns in a pool at a water park after a ‘medical condition’ caused him to slip underwater

A seven-year-old boy drowned at an Indianapolis water park on Saturday.

Officials say the incident occurred just before 2.30pm at the Indy Island Aquatic Center at Raymond Park on the city’s far east side.

According to information provided by the Indianapolis Fire Department, witnesses said the boy may have suffered a medical incident that caused him to slip underwater.

WRTV reported that the boy may have been underwater for as long as 90 seconds while another child nearby tried to bring him back up the surface.

The 10-year-old boy told one lifeguard who alerted other guards, and then jumped into the six-foot-deep pool to retrieve the boy.

The lifeguard pulled the boy to the surface and was assisted by other lifeguards to bring the boy out of the pool and onto the deck, while one called 911.

Firefighters said CPR was in progress when they arrived, in addition to the use of the AED.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, about 12 miles away from the Aquatic Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
