  • Three students were shot, but did not require medical attention
  • The incident came at the same time as a fatal shooting at a Santa Clarita high school 30 miles away
  • Pasadena police don’t have a motive for the BB attack, but haven’t found a connection between the two acts of gun violence
  • The Pasadena School District said they take ‘all incidents involving the safety of students and schools very seriously’

A nine-year-old boy allegedly shot three other students with a BB gun at a Southern California elementary school around the same time a student carried out a fatal shooting at a nearby high school.

The BB shooting happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday in suburban Pasadena at Washington Elementary STEM Magnet School.

Police say the child shot the BB gun in the school’s playground, grazing the victims.

Police Lt. Bill Grisafe tells Southern California News Group the victims were not seriously injured and didn’t require medical treatment.

Police say it’s undetermined if the boy will be arrested and that is no indication of any connection to the shooting at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, 30 miles away.

Mia Page Tretta was injured, as was another girl whose family have given her name only as Addison.

Berhow died in the hospital Friday night from injuries after shooting himself in the head once his killing spree was over.

His motive for the killings remains unclear.

Neighbors said the student was struggling to cope with the death of his father and that he was ‘unsociable’.

There were no warning signs, however, that he was capable of such violence according to police.

In the space of 16 seconds, he had unloaded the entire magazine of his .45 semi-automatic rifle.

Authorities say more people would have died if three off-duty police officers who happened to be dropping off their children at the school at the time hadn’t been there.
