Boy arrested over murder of 15-year-old Jordan Douherty in Romford

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a teenager who was killed outside a birthday party.

Jordan Douherty died when he was beaten and stabbed by more than five attackers near a community centre in Romford on Saturday.

The 15-year-old performed drill music under the name Young Valenti.

Jordan was alleged to have been attacked three times in a matter of seconds amid violent scenes after 200 teenagers had swarmed to the party and some had been asked to leave.

The 16-year-old, who has not been named, was arrested on Wednesday morning in Newham, east London, and taken to a police station.

Three other teenagers aged 15, 16 and 17 who were held at the scene on suspicion of murder have been released under investigation.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward, although Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt admitted that many of the partygoers are not willing to speak to the police.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith said: ‘We’ve spoken to a number of people who were there, but we’re appealing to everybody that was in the community centre, in the vicinity of Clock House Lane, a pedestrian or driving past, please contact us with details of anything you heard or what you saw.

‘You may think it is irrelevant but please let us make that decision.

‘We’re aware that people were videoing the events that evening, we’re very, very keen to see any product that people have.

‘Someone will have seen Jordan being assaulted and stabbed, and we’re appealing to those people to come forward and tell us what they saw, and who they saw do what.’

What is drill music and how is it fuelling London’s crime wave?

‘Drill’ music, a hip-hop subgenre, is driving the feuding gang war in London, community leaders have warned.

Hundreds of videos on YouTube feature UK rappers threatening and provoking people from rival areas.

To ‘drill’ means to fight or scrap and the violent lyrics focus on gang life, drugs, guns and killing.

In one video viewed nearly three million times, rapper Digga D boasts about having to bleach his knife after using it to attack someone.

In another, entitled ‘Mummy’s Kitchen’, rappers Loski and Mayski, who are thought to be Londoners, boast about taking a blade from the family home.

In the videos, which are filmed across the city, performers take care to ensure their faces are covered.

The link with fatal attacks committed against young Londoners is made clear under the videos on YouTube, where commentators speculate about which groups were responsible.

Jordan was knifed over the weekend after a large group of youths were turned away from a party at a community centre because the venue was at full capacity.

Shocked friends of the victim were heard screaming and crying ‘they’ve killed my best friend’, after the boy collapsed around 9pm on Saturday.

Police and paramedics arrived to find up to 200 teenagers running and screaming in panic as the 15-year-old lay in the street in Romford, East London.

A Go Fund Me was set up for the teen, but has since been taken down.

A message on the site read: ‘Jordan’s life was sadly taken from us, he was stabbed to death whilst at a party. He was only 15 years old and had so much more to give.

‘Jordan was very talented and everyone knew it. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.

Please donate to help raise money for his family and help them through this struggle. May god bless Jordan’s friends and family.

‘Rest in perfect peace, fly high and sleep tight.’

One witness said: ‘How can these people go to a birthday party with knives in their pocket?’

Jordan is believed to have featured in a number of YouTube videos of drill rap music, a hip-hop subgenre that is said to be driving the feuding gang war in London.

He performs with the group C17 under the name Young Valenti, while his older brother Roland performs as Valenti, reported The Sun.

One resident who gave her name only as Ellie said: ‘There were two or three boys screaming, “He’s not moving, he’s dead.”

‘There was a big group on the corner with just the boy on the floor. There were paramedics doing shocks and CPR on him for quite a while.

‘After he was just lying there with a white sheet over him, it was covered in blood.’
