Brantley Lloyd, three, was found dead on August 7 a day after his third birthday. His father said he woke up in the late afternoon and found the toddler in the dryer
A three-year-old boy was found dead in a clothes dryer earlier this month after spending the night at his father’s home.
Brantley Lloyd, three, was found by his father Chet unresponsive in the appliance at his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on August 7, a day after his third birthday.
The toddler had been throwing tantrums and throwing up the night before, according to his father.
Chet has not been charged and the boy’s cause of death remains a mystery.
After Brantley died, his father was evicted from the property but it is not clear why.
In an interview with the Virginian Pilot last week, Chet said he had no idea what happened.
He claimed that on August 7, he woke up late because had spent the night awake with his son who he said was having tantrums.
At just after 5pm, a 911 call was placed reporting the toddler being unresponsive. It is not clear if it was Chet or someone else who made the call.
Chet, in his interview last week, described finding him, saying: ‘He was unresponsive and covered in sweat and extremely hot.
Brantley was at his father Chet Lloyd’s house in Virginia Beach, Virginia (pictured) when he died. Chet was evicted days later
‘I don’t know if he panicked and couldn’t get out. He had asthma.’
He said he had been doing laundry the day beforehand and that the little boy must have climbed in himself.
He had spent the day with him alone despite telling Brantley’s mother that they could meet up to celebrate their son’s birthday.
Instead, Chet said he took the toddler out for pizza then brought him home because he was tired.
He said he then woke up and was having tantrums.
‘He wasn’t being himself. He was stubborn. He would cry for hours and hours,’ he said.
Brantley’s mother Amanda Ray said she does not understand how he died and wants answers. Police are still investigating the child’s death
He added: ‘His birthday went to crap.’
Brantley had been living with his father for the last year. His mother, Amanda Ray, said she did not understand his death.
‘It doesn’t make sense to me. Nothing is adding up. I don’t understand how my baby was in a dryer.
‘I don’t understand how he died,’ she said.
Authorities are yet to complete an autopsy on the child but police are still investigating the case.
