Boy George showcases his quirky style in a black jacket and bright blue hat at exhibition viewing

Boy George showcased his quirky sense of style as he attended a private view of Mr Brainwash’s latest exhibition on Tuesday in London.

The Culture Club singer, 61, cut a dapper figure in a black jacket and a matching shirt as he posed for snaps at Clarendon Fine Art’s Battersea Power Station gallery.

He accessorisied with an eye-poppingly bright blue hat and black trainers as he raised a glass to the photographer.

But despite all the glitz and glam, George is facing potential financial turmoil.

His former bandmate and ex-lover Jon Moss has reportedly filed a bankruptcy petition against him – after his £1.75million damages claim.

Former drummer Jon was a founding member of the group which shot to fame in the 1980s, but alleges he was ‘expelled’ by their manager in September 2018 after 37 years playing with them.

George reached an out-of-court settlement with his ex-bandmate last month after being sued for a loss of earnings.

The Sun reported that Jon has applied to London’s High Court for a bankruptcy petition against George, real name George O’Dowd.

This could mean the frontman’s assets could be taken and sold to pay the debts – leaving him facing possible bankruptcy.

Jon had sued for lost earnings after claiming he was told to ‘take a break’ from the European leg of the band’s 2018 world tour Life, meaning he missed out on £200,000 in profits.

The court order stated that the group had agreed that a judgment should be made in favour of Jon, meaning the musicians avoided a six-day trial which had been due to start last month.

The trial had been set to put a value on the Culture Club name. But the order, approved by Mrs Justice Joanna Smith, additionally said that Moss agreed to ‘relinquish’ any right to the band’s name and its use.

Sources close to Boy George told MailOnline: ‘Money owed to Jon will be paid from upcoming tours and therefore Boy George won’t be made bankrupt.’

MailOnline contacted Boy George’s representatives for comment at the time.

It comes after his spectacular London home went on the market with a price tag of £17million.

Boy George’s home forms the central part of a Grade II-listed building that was built around 1868 and sits in a quarter of an acre overlooking Hampstead Heath.

It is a semi-detached property, with fellow high profile celebrity Sam Smith having moved in next door in 2015.

The average price of a property sold in Hampstead in the last 12 months is £1,806,748. It compares to £327,693 for the country as a whole, according to property website Zoopla.

He reportedly banked the highest fee to appear on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, earning a whopping £500,000 for his jungle stint.

Writing in his 1995 autobiography Take It Like A Man, George called his relationship with Jon the ‘the great unresolved romance of the century’ and said it was ‘built on power-tripping and masochism’.

The pair broke it off in 1985 but the tensions caused by their rocky relationship continued and George developed a heroin addiction.

Their US tour was cancelled when Moss and George no longer wanted to be around each other and by 1986 the band had broken up.

They have reunited over the years and found success with their 1998 tour and album Don’t Mind If I Do.

Culture Club recently announced their upcoming Australian tour – without Jon.

The band is bringing its Greatest Hits tour Down Under to five states in September.

They will kick-off at Perth ‘s RAC Arena on September 5, then they will head to Sydney ‘s Qudos Bank Arena on September 8 before taking the stage at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on September 9.

Their penultimate night will be at Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre on September 11 before the tour concludes at Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre on September 14.

The band is known for hits including Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.

George and his bandmates Roy Hay and Mikey Craig will be joined by 80s synth pop group Berlin as their supporting act.

The Los Angeles-based band said it can’t wait to join the legendary group for its Australian tour.

Lead vocalist of the group Terri Nun said: ‘We are OVER THE MOON to be joining Culture Club on this tour! We absolutely love Australia and its amazing people. Can’t wait to see you!’

Culture Club’s Greatest Hits tour comes as the band celebrates its 40th anniversary of its biggest album Colour By Numbers, which sold over ten million albums and shot to triple platinum in the UK and quadruple platinum in the US.
