Boy, just EIGHT, is now without a home after found in car with father carrying a 20kgs of meth

A man is set to appear in court today after he was found with over 20 kilograms of Methylamphetamine.

The 38-year-old man was stopped in his car about 5pm on Monday evening in Balranald where it was searched and the large amount of drugs were found.

His eight-year-old son was in the car with him when he was caught with the illicit substance, yet the boy is now in the care of a government facility as the man is in custody.

He was caught by general duties officers when they were conducting a stationary RBT on McCabe street.

The officers stopped the man’s Holden ute and proceeded to conduct a search of the vehicle, a police statement has said. 

Police allege that the driver was arrested on the spot after finding 15 kilograms of the illegal drug in the rear tray of the ute. 

The South Australian man was then taken to Balranald Police Station where police conducted a more intensive search of the vehicle. 

More bags were found, bringing the total up to over 20 kilograms of methylamphetamine.

The drugs are estimated to come to a monetary street value of $10.4 million.

He was charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of drugs and possession of prohibited drugs and refused bail.

He is set to appear in Wentworth Local Court today for his sentencing.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
