A young boy has miraculously survived a five-storey fall after he was left alone at home in south China. 

Shocking CCTV footage captured the moment the nine-year-old boy plunged 15 meters (49 feet) from his flat window and onto the pavement below on February 20 in Dongguan, Guangdong province.

The unnamed boy was seen sitting up on the ground before horrified bystanders alerted emergency services. The child suffered multiple fractures and bruises all over his legs, according to Chinese media.

The child had hit a metal awning, which broke his fall, before landing on the ground. 

The boy remained under treatment at the Dongguan Guanghua hospital, the report added. 

He told reporters from his hospital bed that he had climbed onto a chair to look out of the flat when he slipped and fell out the window.
