Brassic’s Joe Gilgun beams a grin as he steps out holding a severed FOOT prop while filming series 4 in Manchester

He plays the lead role in Brassic, with his character Vinnie O’Neill last seen being carted off by the police.

And actor Joe Gilgun appeared to be in great spirits as he beamed a grin while filming for the fourth series of the hit show in Manchester on Thursday.

The star, 37, was even bizarrely holding a plastic bag with a severed foot prop inside as he shot scenes with a rusty car.

Joe cut a casual figure for the location shoot, donning grey tracksuit bottoms and a lilac jumper.

He completed his transformation into Vinnie by wearing Timberland boots and also draped a white blanket over his shoulders and at one point even his head.

The star could not stop laughing as he held onto the unlikely prop for the scenes and appeared to be running away from a building with it.

Joe and a co-star were also seen chatting outside the brown vehicle before running and hopping inside, with Joe carefully holding onto the foot with one arm.

The third series of the show is set to hit screens later this year. Series two ended on a cliffhanger as Vinnie confessed his true feelings for single mum Erin (Michelle Keegan) just as he was being carted off by the police.

As he was being lead away, Erin, who has dated his best pal Dylan, whispered something inaudible in his ear.

Declaring his feelings, Vinnie said: ‘I know it’s wrong, but you’re the first thing in the morning, and you’re the last thing at night.’

He then added he didn’t know ‘how to tell’ how much she means to him.

Brassic follows the story of Lancashire native Vinnie, who has bipolar disorder and his best friend Dylan (Damien Molony) from whom he has been inseparable since childhood.

A tainted past, the boys have dealt, scammed, bribed and conned their way through adolescence.

Now, on the brink of adulthood, their dealing and stealing is catching up with them, with the repercussions of their crimes heading their way.
