Brazen thieves searching for amphetamines cause $300,000 in damage after ram raid on pharmacy

Daring thieves remain on the run after ramming their car into a pharmacy in an attempt to steal amphetamines, leaving debris strewn across the floor.

CCTV captured the moment a stolen Subaru drove into an Airport West pharmacy, 11 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, on Friday night.

The brazen robbery attempt left the owner of the store with $300,000 in damages.

The video shows a hooded thief jumping over the mess and bounding across the counters into the back of the store.

He is then seen running out and getting back into the stolen car with boxes of medication in his arms.

Although the raid was over in under 60 seconds, pharmacy owner, Lachlan Williams, told Nine News that he don’t think the thieves got what they came for.

Mr Williams believes that the thieves may have been after pseudoephedrine, a chemical which can be modified to make crystal methamphetamine.

‘Funnily enough, he might have stolen some cholesterol tablets,’ Mr Williams said.

‘Don’t know what he wants with cholesterol tablets.’

Mr Williams’ family has owned the pharmacy for over a decade, and this robbery is the eighth time they’ve been hit.

Damages are expected to exceed $300,000.

‘It’s disappointing you know, because we work our butts off,’ Mr Williams said.

The pharmacy wasn’t the only store hit on that night, and detectives are investigating whether it was the same set of thieves responsible.
