Brazilian teen stabbed girl to death in Goiania

A Brazilian teen launched a horrific attack on a school mate stabbing her to death then confessed he wanted to become a serial killer by murdering two more pupils before handing himself in, cops have claimed.

The victim named as 14-year-old, Tamires Paula de Almeida, was stabbed at least ten times in a frenzied and brutal assault on Wednesday afternoon, as she waited to take the lift in her apartment building to go to school.

According to detectives, the accused revealed he had deliberately bought a knife because he ‘liked the idea of killing’ and wanted to ‘see how the rest of the class would react when they mourned (a classmate’s) death’.

The attacker, a 13-year old student whose name has been withheld, lived in the same tower block as the victim, in Goiania, central west Brazil, and attended the same school and same classes as the victim.

The murdered girl’s mother discovered her daughter lying in a pool of blood outside their apartment door after a neighbour, who didn’t realise who the victim was, found the body and raised the alarm.

According to investigators the incident happened in the stairwell of the building around 1pm.

The boy apparently waited for and grabbed Tamires, in a planned attack, as she got into the lift on the fifth floor. The suspect lived on the 11th floor.

Police captain Leonidio Alves de Moraes told G1: ‘(The boy) told us he seized Tamires just as she got into the elevator and dragged her out to the fire escape.

‘He tried to kill her by hitting her head against the wall. But she did not die. When he saw she was still alive, he stabbed her with the knife.

‘The crime was so brutal, so cruel and so full of rage that the knife twisted in her body. The victim was hit by about ten stab wounds spread between the arms, neck and chest.’

The youngster died from her injuries and her body was left near the emergency escape.

The teen suspect then went to school where he reportedly confessed the crime to a teacher.

Cezar Sabino, 57, Tamires form teacher at the Jardim América State College, told G1: ‘He came to me and said he needed to speak to me privately.

‘He was trembling, very red in the face and his hands were shaking. He said to me: ‘Call the ambulance I’ve stabbed a person in my building.’

According to Mr Sabino, the adolescent handed him the knife.

He said: ‘The knife was wrapped in a black, bloody cloth. I left on my desk and warned everyone not to touch the weapon.’

The alarm was immediately raised and the head teacher along with other staff raced to building, which is near to the school, to try to save the student. But they were too late.

Cops taking the accused back to the building said the boy allegedly confessed he ‘wanted to kill two other girls in the same class’ in addition to Tarmires, and claimed he had murdered her because he had fantasised about ‘the idea of killing’.

However, the pupil had apparently changed his mind after the cold-blooded attack and revealed his intentions to the teacher.

According to Captain de Moraes, although the crime occurred on the same floor where Tamires lived, her mother hadn’t heard her child’s screams.

He said: ‘A neighbour heard the commotion and went into the hallway and found the girl’s body. She unknowingly cried out for help, knocking on the apartment door where the victim lived.

‘The girl’s mother came out to help and was shocked to find the body of her daughter. It was a very traumatic event.’

The neighbour, a 50-year-old housewife and friend of the family who declined to be named said: ‘I didn’t realise that it was Tamires at the time. I was so frightened I screamed for help and her mum ran out. She collapsed when she saw it was her daughter and had to be taken to hospital.’

Detective Paulo Ribeiro, from Goiania’s homicide squad said the attacker had been detained. He appeared at the Childhood and Youth Criminal Court in the city on Thursday.

He said: ‘We still do not know the motive for the crime. We can’t understand anything about this case yet because we do not know the reasons that led him to commit this crime.’

The detective pointed out that security cameras in the building had not recorded the girl’s death.

He said: ‘CCTV shows him [grabbing the teenager] as she enters the elevator and pulling her out of the building, but the cameras do not show the actual crime.’

‘She was very loving and would never do anything to hurt anyone. Everyone was her friend,’ said a colleague.

Sabino said Tamires was an ‘excellent student who will be dearly missed’.

The bright pupil was buried on Thursday after crime scene investigators authorised the release of the body.
