Brendan Fevola slams prima donna AFL players and WAGS for making needy demands

Former AFL player Brendan Fevola has slammed AFL players and their partners after reports of their outlandish demands while in five-star hotels.

Players from 14 teams and their families moved to luxury bubbles in Queensland and Western Australia, where free food, five-star accommodation and long days by the pool are on offer.

The move is aimed at keeping the AFL season going despite the coronavirus pandemic, with players moved out of hot spot cities.

Fevola told his Fox FM audience on Friday that players and their families in the Queensland hub should ‘get their heads out of their a****’.

Reports have suggested players and their families have made wild demands including for puppies, reimbursement for groceries and even asking for nannies.

Others have reportedly demanded spa treatments, softer mattresses and even room renovations.

‘Some of these AFL players are absolutely kidding themselves,’ Fevola said on the radio show.

‘Some players have asked for support for babysitting because they are used to having a nanny, well you don’t need a babysitter because the fact is, you can’t go anywhere, so look after your kids, be parents, that is what parents do.’

He said that those complaining in the hub need a reality check, as people in Melbourne struggle with Stage 4 restrictions and an 8pm curfew.

Fevola said the players should consider themselves lucky to be able to continue playing the sport while Victoria is in lockdown.

‘Get your head out of your a****, play your footy, live with your family and have fun,’ he said.

He did acknowledge it was a small minority displaying diva-like behaviour.

Reports earlier this week suggested it was not all smooth-sailing at the Gold Coast hub.

The AFL are said to be becoming increasingly frustrated with numerous absurd requests from players and their families to upgrade their living situation.

AFL reporter Sam McClure said the league have fielded requests for a range of matters including demands to pay for extra food bills and to renovate their apartments.

‘The AFL’s fed up, to be honest,’ Mr McClure told the Talk Of The Town podcast.

‘They won’t want to say it, (but) they’re frustrated, they’re infuriated, they’re angry.

‘There’s just too many things going on that shouldn’t be going on. Some of the requests – requests for apartments to be altered in some physical way.

‘We all know that they’re making an extreme sacrifice and we’re so grateful for that.

‘But the AFL, make no bones about it, have told certain clubs that: ‘Enough is enough, let’s get on with it, the game is struggling enough as it is, some of the requests are ridiculous and let’s move on’.

‘I think the AFL has made that pretty clear and I think you will find that’s come from the top.’

The AFL is reportedly paying up to $3million a week to house 458 players and families in high-class locations including the 4.5-star Mercure Gold Coast Resort in Carrara.

The WAG contingent are subject to strict rules to prevent an outbreak of COVID-19 within the league, with five clubs so far copping huge fines for breaching the safety sanctions.

It is feared a breach in the hub could threaten the entire AFL season through internal infection of coronavirus.

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin’s wife Brooke visited a Gold Coast beauty parlour after travelling from Victoria, earning the club a $45,000 fine for the quarantine breach, of which $25,000 has been suspend.

Mrs Cotchin posted about her spa day on social media before removing the posts.

She has also demanded ‘medical’ spa sessions, a softer mattress and a full-scale room renovation.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the AFL for comment.
