The 41-year-old shared the graphic image to Instagram on Saturday, revealing the incident took place on Australia Day.

‘This was my Australia Day & Indian Republic day celebration!’ the Wollongong-born athlete bemoaned in the snap’s caption.

‘Hook through the foot. A quick operation this morning at NSPH to get it out and I’m ready to go again!’ he continued, referring to North Shore Private Hospital.

‘Not much fun sleeping with it in last night,’ he added, joking: ‘Fish 1, Me 0’.
