Brexit crusader Nigel Farage warns Australia’s politicians to brace themselves for a ‘revolution’

The man dubbed ‘Mr Brexit’ has turned his attention to Australia in the lead-up to his arrival in the country later this year.

Nigel Farage, the former leader of the right-wing UK Independence Party, was one of the leading campaigners for the Brexit movement and is now saying he believes Australia could face a similar political upheaval.

Mr Farage has called the current geopolitical climate one of ‘global revolution’ after the Brexit vote and cites the ushering in of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and the rise of Donald Trump as key examples.

He believes Australia has the ‘potential’ to do something similar, and spoke highly of the country’s stance on turning back migrant boats, News.com.au reported.

‘Australia is slightly isolated from all that, partly through your geography, but it is not immune, [the] fightback that is going on is a lot more fundamental than short bursts of anger. The whole Western world is changing and reshaping,’ he said.

Mr Farage said a new ‘global revolution’ was just beginning and his key platform point is to fight against globalisation.

He said the UK should better ‘control’ who comes into the country, something he thinks Australia would have a geographic advantage at achieving.

‘I think in Australia your sense nationhood is more acute, possibly because you’re somewhat younger and your radar is better than ours. But don’t think [global forces] aren’t any less insidious or dangerous, because they are,’ he said.

Mr Farage went so far as to say Australian had to ‘take back’ their country and to stand up ‘and be counted’.

‘If people in Canberra start to represent themselves rather than the ordinary people then the revolution will come to Australia,’ he said.

Mr Farage was asked what he would do if he were in British Prime Minister Theresa May’s shoes to which he said he ‘would do a Donald’ and would have had Brexit ‘done and dusted’by now.

Nigel Farage will begin his talking tour of Australia in September this year.
