A bride who married herself in a ‘beautiful’ beach ceremony has revealed why she decided to walk down the aisle alone.

Linda Doktar decided to tie the knot with herself in front of a small crowd as a way to get over a painful breakup.

The 34-year-old walked down a petal-strewn aisle in a flowy blue and purple tie dyed frock, grasping a bouquet of vibrant coloured flowers before saying her vows while she looked at herself in a handheld mirror.

‘I thought this was a beautiful concept to symbolise my journey into loving and honouring myself on a deeper level,’ Ms Doktar told The Sun.

The Gold Coast woman wed herself on the beach on Valentine’s Day 2017 in front of her three close friends after one friend recommended the idea.

‘I believe that the most important relationship I will ever have is with myself,’ she said.

‘I know and understand the quality of the relationship we have with ourselves determines the quality of experiences we have with others.’

The Conscious Coach said her ‘beautiful’ wedding was a turning point in her life which allowed her to connect to deeper levels of self love.

On the same golden sand, on the same day Ms Doktar’s close friend, Emmajane Love known as EJ, also married herself in an intimate ceremony.

The then 33-year-old made the unconventional decision, known as sologomy, to try and heal herself after suffering abuse from former partners.

‘I really made this commitment to put me first and get rid of the concept that I have to be married and then I’ll feel complete and feel whole,’ she told Studio Ten last year.

‘So that’s how it happened. Yep came up with the concept, got engaged to myself, bought myself a ring.

‘I feel more whole, definitely, more complete and I’m not looking outside of myself for happiness. And that’s really the key.

‘In saying that though, I’m totally open to actually meeting someone, if it feels true to me [to marry someone].’

The relationship coach said the idea ‘sprung into mind’ when she was on holiday in Bali and wanted to learn to love the things she didn’t always like about herself.

EJ left her career as an escort to become a relationship guru to help people ‘heal’ from their troubled relationships.

A self-wedding includes everything a traditional wedding would from the rings, cake, guests, vows to the celebrant.

Singles from around the world are following the path of sologomy and while it is not legally recognised in Australia, it is meant to be a symbolic commitment to oneself.
