Bride reveals she dyed her £500 wedding dress GREEN and chopped off the hem

A musician chopped up her wedding dress and dyed it green to transform it into a frock to wear to perform at music festivals.

Emma Male, 36, from Weybridge, Surrey, decided she couldn’t bear to leave the beloved £2,000 white lace gown she walked down the aisle wearing in the back of her wardrobe to rot – so she cut off the hem and dyed it khaki to create a whole new outfit.

The accounts manager and singer told how she loves the result and said the newly transformed dress is now her favourite thing to wear when she performs on stage with her band.

‘When I first saw it going into the green dye, it looked so dark,’ said Emma. ‘I thought “Oh my god. What am I doing?”

‘But I absolutely love it. It gets so much attention but nobody recognises it from when we got married.’

She added: ‘My husband does, but that’s only because I go on about it all the time. It was a bloody expensive dress to just wear once.’

Festival lover Emma married video producer husband, Chris, 36, in a woodland-themed wedding in Kent in 2016.

But after the frock – which is worth £2,000 but she paid £500 for – became ripped and muddy, Emma was determined to transform it into something new.

She now regularly dons the green lacy dress to sing with her band LÅTE, made up of husband Chris, brother Jamie and friend Craig.

‘Our wedding was really casual, we were drinking as we walked down the aisle, guests drank as they watched the blessing and we had friends of ours doing the music,’ explained Emma.

‘But I was walking through the woods in flip flops, so the dress got ripped and muddy. There was no point in putting it to the back of my wardrobe to rot.

‘We’ve always been a musical family and now I love wearing the dress on stage, it’s very me. I’m not the most glamorous person, I’m more of a hippy girl.’

To revive the dress, Emma enlisted the help of her creative cousin, Katie.

It took the pair one week to complete the transformation – chopping off the hem to reduce the length and soaking the white lace frock in green dye.

‘I didn’t want Katie to have the pressure of dying it so I did that,’ said Emma. ‘She’s quite talented with fashion and design so she cut the dress up.’

‘I wasn’t nervous, it’s better than leaving it shoved in the back of my wardrobe and I’m glad I did it now.’

She continued: ‘I didn’t have a big budget for the wedding so I didn’t go around loads of shops trying on dresses because I know it would have been soul destroying.

‘I’d tried a few cheaper dresses on which were nice, but not amazing.

‘My friends Adam and Louise had opened a little boutique and they were having a sample sale so I went down.

‘It was the first designer dress I tried and as soon as I put it on I just loved it.’
