Bride who ‘ran off’ with stag do cash seen at hostel

A runaway bride accused of stealing her fiance’s stag do money has been seen living in a homeless hostel.

Rachel Doran, 29, allegedly ran off with £11,000 her partner, Chris Mahone, 27, had saved up for a trip away with his friends.

Mr Mahone had let his fiancee organise the four-day jaunt, only to arrive at Leeds-Bradford airport to find the party had fake boarding passes and flights to Ibiza had not been booked.

Ms Doran, from Cleator Moir in Cumbria, was later arrested on suspicion of fraud after handing herself in to police.

She has been spotted this weekend having a cigarette and chatting to other residents outside the rough sleeper refuge.

Wearing a striped hooded top pulled over her head, dark jeans and slippers, Ms Doran looked a far cry from the future blushing bride she was supposed to be.

A source told the Mirror: ‘She doesn’t stray far from the door and when she leaves she normally has her hoodie pulled up.

‘She’s wary of being recognised after all that’s gone on, but she’s on friendly terms with other people staying there. She’s happy chatting to them.’

But while Ms Doran hides away from the accusations, her and her fiance’s friends have been quizzed by police in relation to the alleged fraud.

The couple were believed to be planning a £5,000 wedding in their hometown, prior to the bride-to-be hitting the road.

Mr Mahone has reportedly been offered some £5,000 to appear on television, and tickets to take his friends on holiday.

But he is too ‘ashamed, embarrassed and gutted for his mates’ to accept.

Some of the stag-do revellers refused to be denied a holiday and instead flew off to Magaluf.

The men were pictured sunning it up at a hotel at the party hotspot.

Nine of the original group spent £400 each on the spontaneous trip in a bid to ‘make the best out of a bad situation’.

But Mr Mahone himself was not in the mood to join his friends and instead returned home to Cumbria.

One of the revellers on the trip told MailOnline: ‘After we found out about the holiday we went inside the airport, went to the desk and asked if there were any flights to Benidorm or Magaluf.

‘They offered us £150 return so we said ‘f*** it, we’re off to Magaluf’.’

Ms Doran’s arrest comes after it emerged she was previously held over claims she copied a hotel guest’s credit card before going on a spending spree.

She was arrested last month following reports a credit card belonging to a guest at the hotel where she worked had been cloned.

A Cumbria Constabulary spokesperson said: ‘Cumbria Constabulary can confirm that a 29-year-old woman, from Cleator Moor, was arrested yesterday evening (11th September) on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

‘She has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.’
