Brides-to-be have shared the shocking reactions they received after telling guests their weddings were postponed because of the coronavirus.

With the ongoing pandemic raging on, many couples have decided to cancel or reschedule their big day rather than tying the knot on video calls, like others have.

Writing on Reddit’s UK Wedding forum, one bride explained how she was due to get married next month but decided to postpone her nuptials because of the crisis.

However, instead of sympathy, the woman revealed how she was ignored by guests and even told she was ‘ruining’ other brides’ wedding planning by booking up suppliers for 2021.

‘I never expected or wanted an outpouring of sympathy or attention,’ said the bride-to-be in her post, which she shared earlier this month.

‘Covid-19 is impacting a lot more important things than weddings right now. I also appreciate that in reality, other than my close family, nobody really cares about my wedding, especially right now.’

She went on to explain that while most of her guests have kindly responded thanking her for letting them know and promising to celebrate with her next year, a handful of her friends weren’t as kind.

The bride said: ‘On telling my bridesmaid that I was having to postpone, I got a text saying “okay” and on following up with a rearranged date it’s been radio silence. I guess I just expected a message at least saying she would still come?’

If being ignored wasn’t bad enough, the woman went on to explain that one of her friends actually accused her of ruining her wedding by booking up suppliers.

She went on: ‘My friend who had already booked her wedding for Summer 2021 pre-Covid told me that “brides like you [are] stressing me out and ruining the wedding planning experience” as we are “taking up all the suppliers by re-booking”, even though her date was booked in well before I postponed mine.’

This promoted other users to share similar experiences, with one bride who was set to marry in June revealing that since rearranging her wedding date, her guests have become very opinionated about her big day.

She wrote: ‘A lot of friends and family suddenly had a lot of VERY vocal opinions about the new date. “I will be taking a lot of holidays next year”, “the football will be on”, “why not just have a winter wedding?”, “what if there is still no vaccine?”.

‘I just felt like saying, well when the new RSVPs go out, just decline if you can’t or don’t want to come. I can’t please everyone!’

Another bride who was due to tie the knot told how many of her guests have been ‘unsympathetic’ towards her, with many ignoring her messages completely.

She wrote: ‘A lot of guests and family have seemed fairly disinterested and unsympathetic. In particular, my fiance’s best man hasn’t replied to our postponement messages at all.

‘As you said, I get there’s a pandemic and one wedding is a small thing in the grand scheme of things so I’m trying to be okay with it but it’s really hard not to rethink things.’
