Bridesmaid splits opinion after she drops out of wedding to go see Elton John in concert

A bridesmaid has split opinion after dropping out of a friend’s wedding because it clashed with an Elton John concert she hoped to attend.

The anonymous bridesmaid, believed to be from the Chicago area, told the bride-to-be she had tickets to see the legendary singer in his farewell tour, and wouldn’t be able to make her June nuptials.

Sharing the post to Facebook group, That’s It I’m Wedding Shaming, Jarixa E Maldonado posted a screenshot of the conservation between two friends.

The unnamed bridesmaid then offered to ‘send a nice gift’ as compensation.

Her actions divided commenters and while many weren’t impressed, the vast majority sided with the bridesmaid, saying they would do the same.

‘Well, I mean, this is Elton’s last tour, and there’s a 50/50 chance her marriage will fail so…’ one commented.

The bridesmaid wrote: ‘I have good news and bad. The good news is that I’m going to seen Elton John, and I’ll be in the concert and I’ll be in the front on the floor.

‘The bad news is the concert is June 20. I think that’s your wedding. Is that right?

She followed up by saying: ‘I’m sorry Deev. I’ll send a nice gift’.

After not receiving a response, she continued: ‘What time is your wedding? Maybe I can spend the night on Friday night and leave after your wedding. I think you’re just a few hours away from us.

‘What city is your wedding happening in?’

Clearly unimpressed at her friend dropping out of the wedding, the bride replied: ‘What?! You’re a bridesmaid.

‘The ceremony starts at 3.30 but we’re doing a first look and photos well before that.

‘Also the hair/makeup girl said we would be starting all that around 6am, and there will be a rehearsal dinner Friday night, so I don’t think it’s going to work out.

While, Jarixa posted the screenshot with the comment 'Oh. Hell. No', clearly disagreeing with the bridesmaid's behaviour, many were on her side, saying they'd go to Elton John's tour over a wedding.

Elton is currently on his global Farewell Tour, on June 20, 2020 he is performing at the United Center in Chicago.

Tickets for the front section range from $784 (£607) to $4,950 (£3,835).

One person said:  ‘You can get married anytime, this is Elton John!’

A third joked: ‘It’s Elton for crying out loud, chances are another wedding will roll round but Elton is a national treasure and we don’t know how many tours he has left. Reschedule your wedding and go to Elton too’

A fourth penned: ‘You have 7 months to find someone else…relax and do that. I’d choose Elton floor seats over any wedding.’

However, others branded the bridesmaid disrespectful.

‘What the hell?? Like Elton John is amazing but why would you s***w your friend over like that’ one wrote.

‘Remind me not to be friends with y’all that would drop being a bridesmaid for a concert. Also, her explanation has no tact. There is a more tasteful way to essentially say, “your friendship doesn’t mean s*** to me!” another added.

While a third posted: ‘ The people here have some weird priorities. Imagine accepting the role of a bridesmaid and letting someone down like that. Glad they’re not my friends.’
