Brighton line up a move for RB Leipzig defender Angelino as a possible replacement for Marc Cucurella should the Spanish left back leave for Chelsea in a £50m deal
- Brighton considering RB Leipzig’s Angelino as replacement for Marc Cucurella
- The 25-year-old may leave the Red Bull Arena after the arrival of David Raum
- Angelino also attracted the interest of West Ham and German side Hoffenheim
RB Leipzig left-back Angelino could be returning to the Premier League as Brighton’s replacement for Marc Cucurella.
With Cucurella close to a move to Chelsea after submitting a transfer request, the Seagulls are looking to fill that gap.
And with RB Leipzig’s recent acquisition of Germany international David Raum on a five-year deal from fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, Spanish-born Angelino could be close to moving away.
Angelino could be leaving the Bundesliga to go to Brighton as replacement for Marc Cucurella
According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, the situation has attracted the interest of Hoffenheim, who have hopes of replacing Raum with a loan deal for Angelino, and West Ham – although David Moyes has previously distanced himself from that link.
However, with the Seagulls set to make a significant profit on Cucurella, who they purchased last year for £15.4m, they have the income and the space to buy big.
It is believed Brighton have set a £50m price tag on Cucurella, and they are in talks with Chelsea, as the Blues have agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old.
Brighton and Chelsea are continuing talks, with Cucurella’s £50m move appearing more likely
Angelino, 25, was previously on the books at Manchester City, playing six games for the Citizens.
He has made 100 appearances across all competitions for RB Leipzig since joining them on loan in January 2020. He moved there permanently 13 months later in February 2021.
However, the arrival of 24-year-old Raum at the Red Bull Arena on Sunday has led the Spanish left back to consider his future, and he may find himself back in the top flight of English football with Brighton.
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is the only other Spanish player with the Seagulls, ahead of their Premier League campaign, which starts with a visit to Old Trafford on Sunday.
