A man has been charged in the alleged hit and run that left 27-year-old Iuliana Stevenson fighting for her life in hospital

A man has been charged in the wake of an alleged hit and run in Bowen Hills on Thursday.

Brisbane woman Iuliana Stevenson was mowed down by an excavator while crossing the road at about 1am.

After hitting the 27-year-old woman, the man driving the huge construction vehicle allegedly neglected to stop and continued driving.

The 58-year-old who was allegedly behind the wheel of the excavator has since been charged.

Police will allege that he is guilty of  ‘dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm with callous disregard’.

The 58-year-old driver, who hails from Flinders View, will front Brisbane Magistrate’s Court on October 25.

In horrifying CCTV footage, the excavator turns left onto the road she is crossing.

Ms Stevenson disappears for a moment and is next seen lying on the road as the excavator continues on along Hamilton Place.

Ms Stevenson was born in New Zealand, but attended Sunnybank State High School in Brisbane and now works as a business development executive.

Former colleague Kelsey Gable described her on Linkedin as a ‘rising star’ and ‘absolute go-getter’.

Pictures on her social media accounts showed Ms Stevenson often surrounded by friends, and others showed her close relationships with family members.  

After she was hit by the excavator, four bystanders rushed to help her as they waited for paramedics to arrive.

Ms Stevenson was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with critical head injuries.

Queensland Rail chief executive Nick Easy called the collision ‘a tragic incident’ and said the organisation was doing its best to assist emergency services with their inquiries.

Ms Stevenson underwent emergency surgery on Thursday, but remains in a critical condition fighting for life.

The excavator was later found, and police believed it may been is use at a nearby rail-yard.
