Swathes of Australia’s east coast are set for a soaking in the coming days as one capital city prepares for its biggest event of the year.
Three separate weather systems are set to collide across Queensland, resulting in several days of heavy rain and possible storms over the weekend and into next week.
Some parts of the Sunshine State are set to receive rainfall totals of between 30mm and 40mm.
The rain dump will also likely hit parts of northern New South Wales.
For the rest of the country, many Aussies can expect a predominantly fine and sunny weather right through to Wednesday, with the heat rising first in Western Australia and then spreading to South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.
The warmer temperatures will be driven by a band of high pressure spreading across the south.
A cold front affecting the country’s south-west earlier this week is expected to continue pushing eastward.
That system was expected to reach Victoria and Tasmania by Thursday night, bringing some showers.

‘Queensland is a spot that does get heavy rain,’ Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Angus Hines said.
‘It’s not eye-popping rain, not too alarming.
‘(But) it’s decent rain for sure.’
An onshore easterly flow will develop across the city on Friday and then an ‘upper level weather feature’ early next week, which will deliver the dark clouds and rain.
‘I think plan ahead, definitely,’ he said.
‘Be aware there is some rain on the way.’

The rain dump looks set to hit the show next Monday and Tuesday.
