A Brisbane woman got the shock of her life when she laid down for a nap on her sofa only to realise a snake was coiled up with her.

Licensed snake catcher Lana Field told Yahoo7 the woman screamed when she found the unsuspecting slippery visitor had stretched itself out in between the cushions.

‘She wasn’t quite so sleepy any more,’ Ms Field said.

It’s believed the shocked woman then called out for her husband who then called the snake catcher.

The woman, thought to be middle aged and from the United Kingdom, had been working on her laptop on an outdoor lounge throughout the day, and tried to adjust the cushions mid-afternoon so she could have a nap.

That’s when she spotted the carpet python.

It’s not known how long the hidden reptile had been keeping cosy on the couch, but even the house dog hadn’t noticed it.

‘It was probably waiting for her to go so that it could move on again,’ Licensed snake catcher Lana Field said.

The snake was picked up and relocated to nearby bushland.
