Britain braces for SNOW! Arctic blast brings -7C chill and winds to UK on coldest Autumn day so far

Parts of Britain could see snow and feel freezing temperatures as low as -7C this weekend.

The temperature dropped to -3.4C overnight on Friday, making Saturday the coldest morning of autumn so far.

However things are set to get even colder soon – with Sunday likely to see even lower temperatures.

Wet snow or sleet is also expected in some places, making the warm summer weather feel like a thing of the past.

Katesbridge in Co Down, Northern Ireland, was one of the coldest places on Saturday morning as temperatures plunged to -3.4C.

It was -2C in South Newington in Oxfordshire, -1.8C in Sennybridge, South Wales, and -1.5C in Santon Downham, Suffolk.

However, despite the nippy start, much of England and Wales will see a largely sunny day on Saturday, the Met Office said.

Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid to high teens throughout the day.

On Saturday night rain is expected to push south into southern Scotland and northern England, whilst largely fizzling out.

It will feel chilly ahead of this with patchy frost in the south. Blustery showers across northern Scotland.

Overnight into Sunday morning, it will feel like -7C in some places in Scotland as temperatures plunge and Southern parts of the UK could see some patchy frost.

Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey told the Mirror: ‘It is going to turn colder towards the weekend with a northerly flow of Arctic air bringing temperatures down compared to earlier in the week.

‘It will stay cooler into Sunday and after some morning fog, there is the likelihood of sunny spells with daytime temperatures around the mid-teens again.

‘There will be blustery showers around on Saturday and along northern coasts, there will be the risk of gales.’
