A plume of hot air from the Mediterranean is set to sweep across Britain making it hotter than Majorca as temperatures to rocket to 72F for Easter weekend following a ‘Scandinavian shiver.’

The country will be bathed in sunlight by the end of next week as the frosty chills melt into warm weather and blue skies.

The 600-mile wide blast of hot air will send temperatures shooting into double figures – and may even beat the hottest day of the year at 21C in February.

Brits can enjoy the warm and dry Spring weather just in time for bank holiday antics, which will see temperatures in stark contrast to this weekend’s chilly 11C – and even -6C on Saturday evening.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said: ‘It will feel much more like spring by midweek as we lose the cold feed, with 16C by Wednesday and temperatures rising.

‘The Easter weekend looks dry with sunny spells for most, with potential for a south-easterly flow. It’s not clear what temperatures will be, but it will certainly feel warm and pleasant in the sunshine.’

It was a frosty start on Sunday morning but the frost cleared around 7am making way for bright and dry weather this weekend with only some April showers as the cold snap persists.

But despite clear skies with flowers beginning to bloom, temperatures will still remain chilly on Sunday with cold wind being brought form Scandinavia.

Parts of the UK will see isolated showers, particularly with outbreaks of rain in Cornwall, Devon and Northern Ireland.

Despite sunny spells, brisk winds will make it feel colder than it is and those out hill-walking or at the beach on Sunday may want to wear extra layers.

Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: ‘It will be bright or sunny weather for the whole of the UK and patchy rain around Cornwall, Devon and Northern Ireland.’

‘Frosty start this morning with the coldest place being in Cheshire at -6.6C. The frost cleared around 7am and the temperatures tend to shoot up quickly when the sun rises.

‘It feels a lot colder than it is because of the wind. Anyone out hill-walking, on the beaches or coast may feel it to be particularly breezy – so don’t be fooled by the sun.’

‘Sunnier spells will hit the country and high pressure will keep it dry. We could see temperature of 20-21C and even 22C by Friday.

A met office summary said: ‘Most areas dry with sunny spells, although chilly. Isolated showers possible in eastern areas, mainly near the coast. Cloudier and windy in the west with outbreaks of rain at times in Cornwall and perhaps western parts of Northern Ireland.’
