Britain’s biggest family The Radfords go on another holiday abroad

Viewers were baffled as they watched Sue and Noel Radford take 13 of their children to France in yet another getaway on 22 Kids and Counting last night.

On last night’s show, the parents-of-22, who live in Morecambe in a ten-bedroom house, were trying to find a way to handle their 14-year-old son, who had started to act up at school, and decided to take him on a canoeing challenge in France to build up his confidence.

Noel, who owns a pie shop, and, Sue, a stay-at-hone mother, did not comment on how much the escape would cost on the show.

The family have ben on several international trips in the past year, including holidays to Disney World and New York City.

While the cost of living crisis is affecting many households around the country, viewers questioned how the parents of such a big family could afford to take several of their kids to France on a whim.

The decision to go to France came as Sue and Noel tried to find a way to handle their son Josh, who had been misbehaving at school.

Scared their son was getting ‘with the wrong crowd’ and could end up in trouble, Sue and Noel tried to find a solution to their problem.

‘We need to sort it out now before it’s too late,’ the father-of-22 told his wife on the show.

‘I really don’t know what to do about Josh, I’ve never been as worried about any of her kids as I am about Josh at the minute,’ she said, adding: ‘He’s lacking a bit of confidence, isn’t he?’

Noel agreed: ‘He needs his confidence built up in other ways.’

The couple began to brainstorm ideas, floating the idea that Josh needed a physical as well as a mental challenge to boost his confidence.

They eventually settled on a trip to France, where their 14-year-old and Noel would be taking part in a 30km-long canoeing challenge while Sue and other members of the brood looked on.

Viewers couldn’t help but ask how the family could afford to go on such a trip, with several children and last minute, especially in the midst of the cost of living crisis.

‘Love watching, but normal sized families are struggling financially how are these not I mean those pies must be fabulous,’ one said.

‘They always seem to be on holiday. Where on earth do they get the money? Or is it all paid for?’ one asked.

How do they afford holidays with that many kids? I know he sells pies, but wow,’ one said.

There have been questions over how the couple finance their family’s lifestyle in the past.

Sue and Noel, 50, are parents to Chris, 32, Sophie, 27, Chloe, 26, Jack, 24, Daniel, 22, Luke, 21, Millie, 20, Katie, 19, James, 18, Ellie, 16, Aimee, 15, Josh, 14, Max, 12, Tillie, 11, Oscar, 10, Casper, nine, Hallie, six, Phoebe, five, Archie, four, Bonnie, three, and Heidie, one.

Sadly the couple’s 17th child Alfie was stillborn on July 6, 2014.

The couple fund their family thanks to Noel’s pie shop and do not rely on benefits.

They estimate they had spent £1 million on their brood before the birth of their 22nd child Heidi, whom they said could be their last.

‘I try not to think too much about what it costs. What could I have had instead,’ Noel joked.

‘A nice flash car. A Porsche on the driveway,’ while Sue joked: ‘We could have been living in a mansion!’

Meanwhile the mother-of-22 confessed the challenges of homeschooling six children of secondary school age and five at primary school can be difficult.

Sue joked: ‘We’ve got Heidie, who is 10 months, and quite a few toddlers so I am going in so many different directions when the kids are asking, ‘What’s this, Mum?’

“Trying to look after them has been hard.’

She added that the family have had to be extra careful after two ‘haircutting incidents’ saw younger children cutting each other’s hair.

But the mother-of-22 confessed she doesn’t like to ‘constantly shout’ and ‘lets a lot go over our heads.’

Back in November, Sue defended herself after fans called her out for spending £750 on a mattress.

She wrote in an Instagram story at the time: ‘Oh I do, we’ve worked extremely hard to get to where we are now. I think people forget that we don’t just have our bakery, we also work very hard on our media company and filming for our new program just like lots of other “influencers.”

‘I hate that word but most YouTubers don’t also run a very successful business.’

22 Kids and Counting airs on Sundays at 8pm on Channel 5.
