David, who had previously met Colin before his audition, gushed: ‘Oh Colin there is not a dry eye in the house, it was just the most perfect tribute and you sang with such heart that it effected us deeply, it was beautiful.’

Alesha then told him: ‘Oh Colin I really, really loved that, you showed to everyone that it’s never too late to do the things you love and sing about the people you love.’

While Amanda added: ‘As I was listening to the words I realised I didn’t think before about HOW all the men and women fighting for our country were the wind beneath our wings, because we wouldn’t be here without you, thank you.

Giving Colin his fourth yes, Simon added: ‘You are what this show is all about so thank you.’

The show was also subject to fixing claims by fans, after magic act Brotherhood performed a dangerous act on Saturday’s edition of the show.

The tantalisingly intense act saw the group of masked men ask co-host Declan Donnelly to place a sword underneath one of four empty carton boxes which they would then fall onto.

They then asked judge Simon to pick three envelopes at random to decide which numbered box the trio would jump onto.

During the heart-racing performance, the magicians jumped onto the fourth, third and first box one at a time, and luckily came out unscathed.

After seeing them perform, Simon joked: ‘Next time how about we have two boxes and David do it and I choose the boxes.’

While Amanda told them: ‘As a dangerous concept i think it was a really thrilling act.’

One user blasted: ‘You reckon DEC gave them a little signal so they didn’t DIE.’

While another said: ‘That’s it Dec..act like you never did this in rehearsal. Good lad!’

One user took a more rational approach as they wrote: ‘These acts are the most fun to watch but let’s face it, it it’s made tv, nothing will go wrong.’

Another explained: ‘basic slight of hand trick dressed up as death defying illusion. Watch his hands as he picks out the numbers.’

Meanwhile, Russel T. Bird’s performance was marred with technical difficulties as his electric keyboard guitar didn’t work.

Despite the issues the 71-year-old kept going, even as Ant, Dec, Simon and David all stepped up to try and help him, as Amanda and Alesha acted as his backup dancers.

Eventually the judges were able to get the keyboard guitar working again, and they then asked Russell to start from the top.

Giving it his all, the singer looked delighted as the audience and the judges stood up and clapped along with him while he performed.

Going on to give him their critiques, David said: ‘The weird thing was after all that you didn’t play it that much, just a few notes. Well, look, it was a wonderfully exuberant performance, I loved it it was joyous.’

Alesha agreed, as she said: ‘It didn’t matter that you couldn’t play, didn’t play, I enjoyed it and I love your voice.’

While Amanda said he ‘threw amazing shapes’ but the performance ‘was better when it didn’t work’.

Simon compared Russel to Doc Brown in Back To The Future, and said he loved his voice before giving him his fourth yes of the night.

London-based magician Ben Hart also wowed with his act, which saw him start by conjuring up an egg from a piece of confetti, while bouncing it on a fan in front of the judges.

Simon looked on in disbelief at the trick, but Ben didn’t stop there as he enlisted the help of a member of the audience to test out his tesla-coil powered contraption.

The magic act saw him transport the volunteer from one cage to another which was on the opposite side of the stage.

To which the music mogul responded: ‘That was unbelievable, the egg and that, that was unbelievable!’

Alesha then told the young magician: ‘I love to hate those kinds of acts because that’s done my head in. It’s exciting to see what you’re going to do next because that was amazing.’

Simon then joked: ‘Yeah if I was going to give you one piece of constructive criticism that would have been a gorilla in that.’
