Britain’s Got Talent fans in awe over schoolgirl’s emotional Whitney Houston performance

‘That is some voice for a 15-year-old!’ Britain’s Got Talent fans in awe over schoolgirl’s emotional Whitney Houston performance after her mum surrendered her own audition

Britain’s Got Talent’s viewers were left in awe during Saturday night’s show after a mum surrendered her own audition to give her daughter a chance.

Schoolgirl Tia Connolly, 15, thought she was accompanying her mum Claire to The London Palladium, and planned on supporting her backstage, but ended up stunning the crowd with an emotional Whitney Houston rendition.

In a first for the talent programme, Claire announced that she would not be performing her song and instead would be giving up her audition for Tia.

Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were left in shock at the kind gesture as they welcomed Tia on to the stage with the audience erupting into cheers.

A nervous Claire explained: ‘I’ve brought my 15-year-old daughter with me today, she think’s it’s me auditioning.’

Tearfully, she continued: ‘But she has got me through some very hard times in my life and I feel like I owe her. So I’m giving my audition up for my daughter.

‘She is fabulous and she’s an incredible person. This girl doesn’t know how good she is!’

The judges gave Tia a few moments to practise, inviting a few more acts to the stage before seeing her return.

‘I usually sing in the shower, so this is the biggest thing I’ve ever done,’ the schoolgirl anxiously said.

Belting out I Didn’t Know My Own Strength by Whitney Houston, Simon Cowell was seen uttering ‘wow’ in shock as Tia performed.

She received four yes’s from the judges following her emotional song and made it through to the next round.

Fans at home praised Tia for her performance saying she was ‘mature beyond her years’ and they loved seeing her ‘confidence grow.’
