British Airways has banned its staff from a specific activity during layovers as part of a new policy.

The airline has reportedly asked its employees to stop posting on social media from their layover hotels.

Staff have also been asked to remove any existing photos taken at layover hotels from their social media accounts.

According to One Mile At A Time, the rule has been introduced to keep the airline’s staff safe.

It explains that someone with ‘bad intentions’ could analyse the background of the photo and discover the hotel’s location.

The new rules mean that staff can no longer post selfies by the pool or at a hotel restaurant while on a layover.

BA told MailOnline Travel: ‘The safety of our people is really important to us and as a responsible employer, we’re continuously looking at how we can improve their security.’

It follows rules introduced in 2023 which stopped staff from posting photos while ‘professionally engaged’ in their jobs.

That policy banned staff from to sharing photos of themselves in uniform while on the plane.

Dave Wallsworth, a BA pilot with a large social media following, said at the time that he would no longer be able to post in-cabin photos.

In a post on X he wrote: ‘Unfortunately, due to newly published company guidelines, I and my colleagues will no longer be allowed to post when “professionally engaged in our job” at British Airways.

‘So that’s the end of my flying posts, photos and videos. Thanks for all the lovely comments over the years.’

A flight attendant recently revealed why cabin crew are legally required to travel with two flashlights at all times.
