British detectives fly to U.S. to quiz Harvey Weinstein ‘victims’

Scotland Yard detectives flew to the US to question alleged victims of disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein, it emerged today.

Weinstein has been at the centre of an avalanche of claims of sexual impropriety since harassment allegations first came to light in 2017.

The complaints against him have sparked police probes on both sides of the Atlantic, with London’s Met Police understood to be examining 15 allegations made by 10 different women.

Uma Thurman, Natassia Malthe and Lysette Anthony are among the high-profile actresses who have alleged Weinstein attacked them in the UK.

Ms Anthony says she has gone to police, although it is unclear whether Uma Thurman or Ms Malthe did the same.

Detectives travelled to the US earlier this summer to question some of those who have made complaints against Weinstein, police confirmed today.

A spokesman said: ‘The Met can confirm that officers involved in Operation Kaguyak travelled to the United States in June as part of their inquiries. We are not prepared to discuss further.’

Operation Kaguyak, as it has been named by police, was opened in October last year after Merseyside Police received an allegation of sexual assault in London in the 1980s and referred it to Scotland Yard.

Investigations into alleged attacks on a woman in Westminster in 2010 and 2011, and in Camden in 2015, begun later that month before another allegation, relating to a woman in Westminster in the mid-1990s, was then added to the investigation in February this year.

Lysette Anthony came forward in October to allege Weinstein had raped her at her London home in the 1980s.

She said he pushed her inside her home then forced himself on her against a coat rack.

She told The Sunday Times: ‘He came over my leg like a dog and then left. It was pathetic, revolting… I remember lying in the bath, crying.’

In an interview in February this year, Uma Thurman described how Weinstein allegedly attacked her in London’s Savoy hotel in the 1990s.

She said: ‘He pushed me down. He tried to shove himself on me. He tried to expose himself. He did all kinds of unpleasant things. But he didn’t actually put his back into it and force me.

Weinstein later denied Thurman’s claims and insisted he couldn’t have attacked her because they stayed friends for years after the alleged incident.

Natassia Malthe claims Harvey Weinstein burst into her room at the Sanderson Hotel in London after the 2008 BAFTA Awards and began masturbating in front of her while sitting on the bed.

After telling her a number of A-list actresses he claimed to have bedded, Weinstein allegedly forced himself on Malthe and began having sex with her despite her pleas for him to stop. He did not wear a condom, she claims.

More than 75 women have accused Weinstein, who was one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, of wrongdoing since the MeToo movement – a global campaign against sexual assault – gathered momentum.

Court proceedings have since begun in relation to three different women. Weinstein has denied all allegations of non-consensual sex.

It was reported in the US yesterday that Asia Argento, one of Weinstein’s accusers, paid £300,000 to a teenage co-star who accused her of sexual assault.
